Christians Under Attack

A police officer found the bomb at 6:15 a.m. inside a black laptop bag in a desk drawer inside the station. The bomb was defused about an hour later by the Poso Police bomb squad, according to Indonesian news portal liputan6.com. 

The low-intensity bomb was made up of hundreds of nails, a jerry can of gasoline, and a detonator made of a cell phone and a series of cables. According to the bomb squad, the device had been set up to detonate at 8 a.m.

The small police station, which was specially set up to support Christmas and New Year security, is located in front of Poso's Central Market and is about 400 meters from the Poso Police headquarters. 

Police, with the help of the military, immediately swept the area after they discovered the bomb to check if any other explosives had been placed nearby. 

Meanwhile, Christmas celebrations in Poso went well, as of Tuesday afternoon, with services in 387 churches in 19 subdistricts in Poso going ahead peacefully. 

Poso, which had a bloody history of sectarian conflict from 1997 to 2000, was recently dubbed a terrorist hotbed after a spate of shootings and the discovery of several bombs since August.
