Gunman who killed UK tourist claims he is 'blessed'
A JORDANIAN accused of killing a British man, after opening fire on tourists in Amman's Roman amphitheatre, insisted in court yesterday that God "blesses" him for the attack, saying the British are
enemies of Islam.
Prosecutors say Nabeel Ahmed Issa al-Jaourah fired a pistol at Western tourists at the historic site in September, while shouting, "Allahu akbar", or "God is great".
Christopher Stokes, 30, an accountant from Greater Manchester, died in the attack, and five people from Australia, Britain, the Netherlands and New Zealand, as well as a Jordanian tourist police officer, were wounded.
"God blessed me when I killed a British man and hurt others, because they are fighting the Prophet and his soldiers since Balfour Declaration," al-Jaourah told the military court, referring to the 1917 document by the British government which promised support for the creation of a Jewish homeland.
"The British people ... insulted the honourable Koran and women who wear the head cover," said al-Jaourah, who is a Jordanian citizen of Palestinian origin. He was apparently referring to comments in October by House of Commons leader Jack Straw, who said he believes that face-covering Muslim veils inhibit communication.
Al-Jaourah has pleaded innocent to murder charges. But after his comments, the prosecutor said he had confessed and urged the court "to hand him the harshest punishment."
Al-Jaourah faces a possible death sentence by hanging if convicted. The trial resumes in a week.
The 4 September shooting was a rare attack on tourists in Jordan. Prosecutors have said al-Jaourah was acting alone and had no links to terrorist groups.
In recent years, Jordan has carried out a string of trials against suspected terror cells operating in the country, which is sandwiched between the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the Iraq war.

TROUP, Texas - An East Texas minister who recently left the military has been charged with murder in the beating death of his wife.
Pastor Michael Tabb, 41, was released from the Smith County Jail on Wednesday after posting $50,000 bond. He had surrendered to authorities earlier in the day.
The pastor is charged in the slaying of his wife Marla Tabb, 35, who was found in the bedroom of the First United Methodist parsonage with blunt force trauma to the face and head. Mr. Tabb told police Aug. 5 that he had found her body.

does accepting Islam make you a better person ? could also be asked.
And as one who does not believe in any religion from what I have seen both in the news and in my travels though the middle east and Europe I would say there are more murders by muslims. If one chrisitan kill somebody there is always 10 muslims doing worse. I am not saying anything to back Christianity OR Islam --but judging as an impartial thrid party I would say the muslims have almost cornered the market for violence, especially violence done for their god.

The socalled Christian pastor went against his scriptures but when a muslim beats his wife he is OBEYING his own scriptures (koran). That is the difference!

Many of you seem to be very frightened and surprised by the fact that I openly preach Jihad for the sake of Allah, as it is ordained in our Religion. Keep in mind, I only preach that which is in the Qur’an and Sunnah; and those who tell you that preaching from these two sources is not necessary, do not listen to them; even if they call themselves Muslim since Allah says,
يٰأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ آمَنُوۤاْ أَطِيعُواْ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ وَلاَ تَوَلَّوْا عَنْهُ وَأَنْتُمْ تَسْمَعُونَ
وَلاَ تَكُونُواْ كَالَّذِينَ قَالُوا سَمِعْنَا وَهُمْ لاَ يَسْمَعُونَ
إِنَّ شَرَّ ٱلدَّوَابِّ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلصُّمُّ ٱلْبُكْمُ ٱلَّذِينَ لاَ يَعْقِلُونَ
O ye who believe! Obey Allah and His Messenger, and turn not away from him when ye hear (him speak). And be not like those who said, ‘We hear’, and they did not obey. For the worst of creatures in the sight of Allah are the deaf and the dumb; they are those who understand not. (al-Anfaal: 20-22)
