Someone called "Truth" posted a comment quoting the Quran on suicide. However the interpretation of the meaning is probably wrong, verse 4.29 does NOT clearly forbid suicide. There is in the interpretation a problem between the concept of "yourselves" and the concept of "each other". Below are three variants of 4.29 interpreted in the English language (sourced from http://www.usc.edu/dept/MSA/quran/004.qmt.html)

YUSUFALI: O ye who believe! Eat not up your property among yourselves in vanities: But let there be amongst you Traffic and trade by mutual good-will: Nor kill (or destroy) yourselves: for verily Allah hath been to you Most Merciful!
PICKTHAL: O ye who believe! Squander not your wealth among yourselves in vanity, except it be a trade by mutual consent, and kill not one another. Lo! Allah is ever Merciful unto you.
SHAKIR: O you who believe! do not devour your property among yourselves falsely, except that it be trading by your mutual consent; and do not kill your people; surely Allah is Merciful to you.

So in conclusion, 4.29 is not a clear verse about suicide at all !!

My question is this,WHY SO MANY VERSIONS OF BIBLE ? Extra books are found in The Original Douay Version Catholic Bible just exactly how did they get there? If they do belong in the Bible, obviously they should be included in Protestant versions. Indeed if they belong in the "word of God", man has no right to remove them from it. If they do not, man also has no right to attempt to add them to it.
The Qur'an is memorized today by over 9,000,000 living human beings, in the original text and in the original language. There are more than a billion distributed around the world in written form - and each is exactly like the other. There no versions of Quran.Ever single Muslim has memorized at least some portion....WHY HAS NO ONE MEMORIZED THE BIBLE?

So whoever commits suicide then he will be considered eternally to Hell-Fire, remaining there forever, as occurs in the hadeeth of the Prophet, (sal-Allaahu `alayhe wa sallam). It is very interesting that "Exmuslim" has a problem with wife beating so he became a Buddhist. Exmuslim might find it interesting that Buddhism has liberated Chinese women to such a great extent that female infantcide is still widely practiced in china until this very day. It is a shame that you seem to have asorbed the corrupt Egytian culture instead of true Islamic teachings.

May I also add that Muslims do not accept the doctrine of original sin. They do not believe that Eve alone was the one to be blamed for the sin of eating from the forbidden tree in Paradise. Both Adam and Eve (peace be upon them) committed this mistake, so both of them have equal share in it.

Recently I was in a relationship with a Saudi. I really loved him. He was so sweet and kind. But there was always something about his religion that drove me nuts. I happened to say something about Muhammad in a discussion we were having one time and he told me “not to cross that line.” I was raised catholic but am an agnostic so it was almost easier for me to see his side than for him to see mine. (Which may have something to do with him being 1 a man, and 2 an arab, excuse me if that is offensive, i am having a really hard time seeing the differences between arab and muslim) Anyway, recently he attained a scholarship (with the help of his mother not his brain) from the saudi gov. immediatly after this he told me that his mother wanted him to come home and get married. He never told his mother about me. Breaking up was the hardest thing I ever had to do. It’s still hard to get over, but I left for this reason, he told me that the most important thing in his life is his country, then god, then his family. I told him that he was insane. My friend said it was brainwash.

Since the break up I’ve been looking for reasons to believe that it was a far far better thing to be without him rather than with, your site has helped a lot, Amensty International has been a big help too. if you have time could you possibly clear up the difference between Muslim and Arab. And why do Muslims treat women like they do? Big questions I know.

How do you feel about the way Muslims feel about Isreal? My boyfriend used to say he would never trust a Jew, it really bothered me.

I have a friend who doesn't believe in any religion, always talked about humanity and wanted to form a group of humanity. I followed Islam and knew all the good things of Islam. Whatever laws I found in Islam I gave a good explanation and everyone was amazed including me. I ignored all those verses, hadiths which seemed bad to me and thought I couldn't understand probably. I am a person who loves to do the right thing and not for showing. So I tried to know the Islam to practice it better and then the problem arise. I couldn't believe what I found. I asked muslim scholars, seniors and I tried to find out the truth. I actually didn't believe there could be any mean thing in Islam. I asked myself whether God can be so mean. If God is The Power who created EVERYTHING, could He be so mean. I asked people why prophet married so many, why he married his adopted sons wife etc. None gave me any answer which could satisfy me. One of them told me that why am I so eager to find out there is no God or prophet lied and all these. I actually didn't want to find out there is no God but his comment gave me a clue.

I really believed all there is in Islam is truth and I hoped for the judgment day. I thought only God knows who a person really is, I believed humanity is the main identity of human being and on judgment day God will send them to heaven. You won't believe how wonderful explanation I had about hell and heaven, prayer, fasting and every thing was in Koran. Still I can't believe these are not true. The much I read I wonder how is it possible to make so many people such idiot! I am no one but I know many who are really scholars, highly educated, why didn't they understand anything, why?

Oh I wanted to find the beauty of Islam so that I can be a proper human being, treat others right and teach others the right thing with the laws of God. But I found things, which broke my faith.

Is this why Mollah's tells us not to question, if you don't understand leave it on God, when God wants He will give you the wisdom. I have found that those who actually don't follow anything of Islam (not even anything of humanity) but act as a pure muslim, try to hide the truth from everyone. They don't want people to know the truth, what Islam is , who really the prophet was and never answers the questions against Islam. It is really a good politics, the best politics to use the religion as shield and take all the unethical advantages.

I am so frustrated, so shocked, and have none to discuss this (people will kill me). Thank you very much for your time.

If you were being interrogated by the Taleban as a suspected US spy, it might be hard to imagine a happy ending.
But for journalist Yvonne Ridley, the ordeal in Afghanistan led her to convert to a religion she says is "the biggest and best family in the world".

The formerly hard-drinking Sunday school teacher became a Muslim after reading the Koran on her release.

She now describes radical cleric Abu Hamza al-Masri as "quite sweet really" and says the Taleban have suffered an unfair press.

Working as a reporter for the Sunday Express in September 2001, Ridley was smuggled from Pakistan across the Afghan border.

"But fear quickly took over. I did see him again on my way to Pakistan after my release and he waved at me from his car."

Ridley was interrogated for 10 days without being allowed a phone call, and missed her daughter Daisy's ninth birthday.

Of the Taleban, Ridley says: "I couldn't support what they did or believed in, but they were demonised beyond recognition, because you can't drop bombs on nice people."

It has been suggested the 46-year-old is a victim of Stockholm Syndrome, in which hostages take the side of the hostage-takers.

But she says: "I was horrible to my captors. I spat at them and was rude and refused to eat. It wasn't until I was freed that I became interested in Islam."

'Flappy knickers'

Indeed, the Taleban deputy foreign minister was called in when Ridley refused to take her underwear down from the prison washing line, which was in view of soldier's quarters.

"He said, 'Look, if they see those things they will have impure thoughts'."

"Afghanistan was about to be bombed by the richest country in the world and all they were concerned about was my big, flappy, black knickers.

"I realised the US doesn't have to bomb the Taleban - just fly in a regiment of women waving their underwear and they will all run off."

Once she was back in the UK, Ridley turned to the Koran as part of her attempt to understand her experience.

What does Ridley feel about the place of women in Islam?

"There are oppressed women in Muslim countries, but I can take you up the side streets of Tyneside and show you oppressed women there.

"Oppression is cultural, it is not Islamic. The Koran makes it crystal clear that women are equal."

And her new Muslim dress is empowering, she says.

"How liberating is it to be judged for your mind and not the size of your bust or length of your legs."


The reporter spent the first night of war in a prison cell in Kabul

A single mother who has been married three times, she says Islam has freed her from worry over her love life.

"I no longer sit and wait by the phone for a man to ring and I haven't been stood up for months.

"I have no man stress. For the first time since my teens I don't have that pressure to have a boyfriend or husband."

"I was just about to hang up when he said, 'But there is just one thing I want you to remember. Tomorrow, if you have an accident and die, you will go straight to hellfire'.

"I was so scared that I carried a copy of the vows in my purse until my final conversion last June."

And the hardest part of her new life?

"Praying five times a day. And I am still struggling to give up cigarettes."

Well, I am a "Muslim" born in the US and my parents are from Bangladesh. They are about as conservative as they get. As the days go by, I question religion and Islam in particular all the time. You are the first person that I have seen that has challenged Islam with so much info. to back it up, it is mind-blowing. Over the last few years, I have been struggling with the weirdness of Islam and it is something that I wish more people would open their mind to and explore. I was raised in a muslim household, went to Sunday school, go to Eid prayers, etc. It wasn't until college and beyond that I started to really analyze Islam for what it really is. Lately, it has been a real big issue with me. A couple of years ago, I married a non-muslim and my family went crazy. She is a normal girl, kind, etc. yet my family considers her the devil himself who ruined the entire sanctity of their convoluted little world. Well, this is a typical example of how intolerant Islam truly is. I know of so many muslim guys who are in a mixed ethnic/religious marriage and it is nothing short of a roller coaster ride from hell! I ask any of the so-called pious muslims to ask themselves, if Islam is so tolerant, bring home a nice white boy or girl to your house, and see what happens. I seriously doubt they would accept them with open arms, or they would force them to convert.



One of the problems with Islam is that it is not a religion that is compatible with the 21st century. I get so pissed off when I have some sort of discussion on the fallacies of Islam and some ignorant muslim will go on and on about stuff that happened centuries ago. There's their argument. On things that happened so long ago and which are so poorly documented, who knows what is the truth. Islam hasn't flourished past the 14th century. Technology in this day and age are so far ahead and leaves most muslim counties in the Dark Ages. I ask the readers out there......tell me one country where Islam actually works...where everyone is living in peace and harmony, by the guidelines set forth in the Quran. NONE. The only one that comes close is America and that is because Islam to most families is a watered down version of its true self. Islam does not work in a modern society. Islam has contributed so little to mankind, I wonder how so many people still embrace it. Whether it is science, technology, music, sports, fashion, etc. they are mostly contributions from non-muslims. Go to NASA and see how many muslims are thinking up brilliant things. If there are any, they are ones that have been educated in a Christian or modern society.



The other huge problem in Islam is the fact that in poor nations, people have nothing to do but be poor and feel miserable and just sit around and ponder the worlds problems. I have been to many muslim nations visiting family and friends and most are poor and have nothing to do but sit around and recite the Quran and don't have a clue what they are reading. Then they read the paper, or watch the news, assume they know about foriegn policy, and then blame the US or Europe for all the problems in the world. These terrorist that commit atrocities like that of 9/11, they don't have much going on in their lives. If they were business owners, making good money, contributing to the education system or society, I doubt they would blow themselves up. Americans or most modern societies are just too cool for that. We got things going for us. We are too damn busy for anything else. I know so many people in Bangladesh for example that find nothing wrong with what the terrorists did. They feel that because their lives are so bleak, that at least they got one for the hometeam....they got the best of a rich nation that can spare lives and afford it. Well, here in America or other civilized nations, we don't think about these things. I am too busy wondering why the hell my cable bill is so freaking high...not about my roles as a good "muslim" That is what the Taliban is all about. A bunch of uneducated Mullahs who are so close minded and have read nothing further than the Quran or Hadiths. Ask them if they have read any Hawthorne or Shakesphere. They have no clue of what is going on in the world or the evolution of mankind outside of their little world. And unfortunately, in countries like my parents country of Banglasdesh, people are so backwards and have such a polluted, folktale version of religion, it just filters down and gets passed on from generation to generation.



But what is scary is the fact that the most f'd up muslims are the ones from the "Mother Land" Saudi Arabia. My parents just came back from Hajj and let me tell you......Arabs hate Americans......period. They treated my parents so poorly, and my parents are super religious. They blast and badmouth America so much but embrace our technology and our oil buying capacity. If they were so bright and if Allah was on their side, why didn't a muslim get to invent the internet?? Why arent' any of the wonderful technological advances in humanity from one of Allah's crew? And you would think that the Saudis would be the ones who really know the religion because they speak, read and write the language. Look at the terrorists of 9/11, all Arabic speaking. They are not a bunch of wackos, they actually understand the true meaning of what it is to be a Muslim. For all the people who write in and complain about this site......how many of you actually understand the Quran. True it is written in some sort of weird poetic high Arabic, but still, those who speak Arabic have a hell of an advantage over someone who doesn't speak the language. For those who practice Islam and don't speak Arabic.....don't you wonder what the hell you are saying when you pray or recite the Quran? Just because it sounds divine doesn't make it right. For all you know, it could be saying "kill, rape, slaughter, maime,!" Well, according to you, it does so I apologize!



Anyways, I could go on and on. I just hope someone reads this and at least question themselves..what are they suscribing to. If one feels that Islam is the way to go, then they should not be afraid to play devils advocate. It will only make them stronger. As for me, who the hell knows what is in store. We all wonder what religion is right.....Islam, Christianity, Judaism, etc. When it is all said and done, for all we know, we have been wasting our time trying to get bonus points for our front row seats in heaven and then we die and realize....there is nothing....it's lights out.....The sad fact is that the only way you can find out THE ABSOLUTE TRUTH is to see it first hand and be dead. But if all you find is worms are going through your skull, well.....your're S.O.L. Where the hell's my remote, I hear there's something good on HBO tonight!

I was born a hindu but became muslim several years ago in Detriot. You need to understand in our culture it is not wrong to marry such a young bride and consummate the marriage because women mature faster then men. She was 9 years old when she went with the Prophet (peace be upon Him) but she had a womans mind.



In islam its fine to marry such a young lady because the Prophet (peace be upon Him) blessed such a union. It is not 'pedophillia' because you are married to her she is your wife.
And if she is 9 its fine and its fine if she is 7 also because the Prophet (peace be upon Him) engaged the lady at that age.

Is the GOD of Israel a pedophile? Quick side Note:
Numbers 31:35-40 "[From the captives of war] 32,000 women who had never slept with a man.......of which the tribute for the LORD was 32 [among them were virgin girls]."
Even though GOD Almighty's share of the 32 virgin girls is metaphoric, meaning that He didn't come down and have sex with them, but if any wants to call Prophet Muhammad a pedophile or womanizer for marrying (not forcing into sex) a young girl and marrying multiple women throughout his life, then he should not only call his Biblical Prophets as such, but also the GOD of Israel Himself!

Dear Christians ,


How can you know for sure you are saved when Jesus himself
made statements declaring we are headed for Hell ?


For Example :


" But I say to you that every one who is angry with his
brother shall be liable to judgment; whoever insults his
brother shall be liable to the council, and whoever says,
'You fool!' shall be liable to the hell of fire . " Matthew
5:22


Surely most of us have said bad words now and then ,
therefore according to Jesus , most of us will taste the
Fires of Hell and are not Free from punishment according to
Jesus .


Jesus made several statements implanting uncertainty in the
hearts and minds of his listeners regarding their Salvation
.


For Example :


" Not every one who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter
the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of my Father
who is in heaven . " Matthew 7:21


If Jesus is our Savior , why would he say calling upon him
as 'Lord' on the Day of Judgement will Not Save Us ?


Jesus even told a entire generation that there is No Escape
from Hell for them, and what they have done will be with
them:


"..How can ye escape the damnation of Hell? Wherefore,
behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes:
and some of them ye shall kill and crucify; and some of them
shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from
city to city: That upon you may come all the righteous blood
shed upon the earth, from the *blood of Innocent Abel* unto
the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew
between the temple and the altar. *Verily I say unto you,
All these things shall come upon this generation* ." Mt
23:33-36


How can a Christian be sure they are saved when Jesus
repeatedly says that with a sinning eye or a sinning hand ,
We Will Go to Hell , Jesus even offers a remedy by
suggesting we cut off our hand or pluck out our eye to avoid
Hell , this certainly leaves the listeners Unsure if they
will go to Hell or not unless they take drastic measures :


" And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better
for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than
having two eyes to be cast into hell fire " Mark 9:47


" And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for
thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go
into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched " Mark
9:43


Jesus even says you will be cast into Hell if you do not
behave in accordance with the Will of God :


" And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees:
therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is
hewn down, and cast into the fire. " Matthew 3:10


" Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn
down, and cast into the fire. " Matthew 7:19


How many Christians live undisciplined lives , producing bad
fruit and expecting Jesus will save them ? How can they be
sure when Jesus makes it perfectly clear they will go to
Hell ?


Jesus is saying Every Sinner will be cast into the Fire .


Where does Jesus say every sinner will be saved through the
blood of Jesus ?


Even at the Supper table , Jesus said his blood is shed for
_many_ not , all .


It even seems as though Jesus came to Warn us about Hell
rather than save us from Hell, Jesus came to give us
Uncertainty of our Salvation:


" I have come to cast a fire on the earth; and what will I
if already it has been kindled? " Luke 12:49


Jesus also directly warns that if you do not obey him, you
will be thrown into Hell:


" Unless any one abide in me he is cast out as the branch,
and is dried up; and they gather them and cast them into the
fire, and they are burned. " John 15:6 (also John 5:24)


According to the Gospel, it is possible to fall out of the Christian faith through sin;

"For how can those who abandon their faith be brought back to repent again? They were once in God's light; they tasted heaven's gift and received their share of the Holy Spirit; they knew from experience that God's word is good, and they had felt the powers of the coming age. And then they abandoned their faith! It is impossible to bring them back to repent again, because they are again crucifying the Son of God and exposing him to public shame." (Hebrews 6:4-6)

and that Christians are not fully saved until they enter the heavenly kingdom ( 1 Peter 1:4-5)

Even in the Old Testament , there is Absolute Uncertainty if
we will go to Hell or not :


There is a prediction in Psalms that the Sinners will go to
Hell, similar to what Jesus says:


"The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the (nations)
that forget God." Ps 9:17


Does this include all with in the evil nations such as
Germany in WW!! ? or America during Hiroshima etc.. ?


In Isaiah which we assume predicted Jesus , also predicts
Hell will take even the people who are boastful :


" Therefore hell hath enlarged herself, and opened her mouth
without measure: and their glory, and their multitude, and
their pomp, and he that rejoiceth, shall descend into it ."
Isaiah 5:14


In conclusion , "Let him who thinks he stands take care lest he fall" (1 Corinthians 10:12).

We see that Jesus did not come to remove
_all_ sin, but in fact to warn us of Hell and assist us in
receiving forgiveness, but certainly not removing our
responsibility to obey the commandments "otherwise we will
be thrown into Hell" as Jesus continuously warned.


Even at the sacrifice where the crucifixion of Jesus was
supposedly a action to forgive the human race, why would
Jesus ask God "Forgive them fore they know not what they do"
if the crucifixion was indeed the Ultimate sacrifice ? Why
would Jesus need to ask God to forgive us if the assumed
shedding of Jesus's blood was in fact a means of atonement ?


Unless perhaps the crucifixion was not a ultimate method of
forgiveness and in fact we are very much in danger of Hell
as it is written in the Old Testament and the Gospel of
Jesus .


How then can we be saved if we are still in danger of the
Hell Fire as Jesus warns ?


Allah (which means - God - in the Semitic Arabic language)
gives us many clear signs in the Holy Quran to assure us we will
be saved , Allah clarifies the Favors bestowed upon us and
in return Allah only asks you believe in the Day of
Judgement , in those Allah sent to us (including Jesus) and
follow the teachings of the Quran .


" Those who believe, and do deeds of righteousness, and
establish regular prayers and regular charity, will have
their reward with their Lord: on them shall be no fear, nor
shall they grieve . " {Translation of the Holy Quran 2:277}

I came to Islam late, a daughter of a devout Roman Catholic mother/very devout Jewish father. By age 4 I knew of Allah and in 1991 I traveled to Egypt to read some of my writing. I had already spent almost 20 years among the most pious of Jews, had married, had children. When I heard the muezzin* before Fajr* his voice was like the arrow one dreams that a lover will shoot into the heart, it cut & held me unable to speak. Not even knowing Arabic, I knew the sound, it is like a recognition of something so profound, so great and if I may say, so sweet that one has been searching for. The Quran speaks to me clearly as if it was written for Jews to hear and wake up. I had to leave the community I lived in and my children. I did not chose to, I had to. Those of you, young and coming into Islam are truly blessed. You have your lives, will marry and raise Muslim children in'shallah.

The only people who can say they are Chosen, are those who search for the True path to Allah with all their heart.

* Muezzin: A person who calls for prayers in the mosque. The AZAN is the call. It usually occurs 5 times a day. The AZAN's context is the following: Allah is greater...I witness that there is no god but ALLAH. And I witness that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. Come to the prayer.. come to success...Allah is greater...

Tuskadaro, Numbers only says "virgin girls", it doesn't specify ages nor does it say the Israelites were to have sex with them straightaway. The age of marriage for a female in ancient Israel was 12.5. That's a big difference developmentally from 7 or 9. The age of consent gets higher throught history because people live longer; women today have healthy babies at 35, in the distant past their life expectancy was often less than 30. We don't need to start reproducing as early as our ancestors.
