A Statement From The Clergy Of The North Eastern United States Of America

“The time is coming that whoever kills you will think that he offers God service.” (John 16:2) Copts around the world were saddened and dismayed during the most holy days of the year by the events transpiring in the great city of Alexandria

These events, which we believe are escalating daily, have only added a new series of adversities to those that have befallen our Coptic flock. We see no forthcoming equitable solution that would make all citizens feel equal with one another.

We ask the officials in Egypt to seek swift and just resolutions that guarantee ‎a secure and stable life for the Coptic people: resolutions that allow them to ‎live without any concerns of persecution and suffering and that provide the ‎assurance of complete freedom to practice their religious rites without being ‎subject to any form of prejudice or injustice. It is the civilized countries of the ‎world that secure the most basic rights for their citizens, the foremost of those ‎being religious freedom. ‎

It is irrational and inconceivable that the Egyptian judiciary system attempts ‎to obscure and alter facts for the benefit of criminals each time crimes are ‎committed against the Copts. An impartial system of justice is a fair one that ‎does not show favoritism and does not discriminate based on faith or ‎ethnicity. ‎

We fear that the sluggish response and complicity of many officials in these ‎events may result in more startling and heinous crimes and will lead to havoc, ‎chaos and other dire consequences. We do not wish that the reputation of our ‎beloved Egypt be affected internationally because of these events. ‎

We will not compel our people to restrict the expression of their feelings in ‎any manner so long as it does not contradict our Christian ethics so that we ‎may help our brethren by every means possible.‎

IRAN : CONCERN MOUNTS FOR JAILED IRANIAN CHRISTIAN

Compass: Concern is growing among Iran’s evangelical community for the safety of a pastor arrested four weeks ago
by the Iranian security police. Iranian authorities have refused to give any reason for the arrest and prolonged detention of Hamid Pourmand, 47, a lay pastor in the Assemblies of God Church. No one has been allowed contact with Pourmand since September 9, when he was arrested along with 85 other evangelical church leaders.
