Christians under attack in Egypt as Muslims gain power
During the past few weeks of unrest in Egypt we expressed concern that the Christian minority must be protected. Unfortunately, our worse fears were confirmed. Muslim extremists are taking advantage of political chaos to persecute Christians in Egypt. An empty church has been bombed
and two Egyptian Christian families have been murdered by Muslim extremists. The massacres took place in the village of Sharona, in the Minya providence. Eleven were killed and four were left for dead after violent Islamist’s stormed the two homes. Last month twenty three Christians were killed and ninety seven injured
after a bomb exploded at New Year’s Eve church service in Alexandria, Egypt. The Muslim Brotherhood has risen up during these protests and has been granted a seat at the table during negotiations with the Egyptian government.
The Muslim Brotherhood has long been banned in Egypt for their radical views that herald Islamic law. Their founder’s objective was an Islamic state, and now they are rising in power through the riots. On Sunday, leaders from the protest, including the Muslim Brotherhood leaders, met with the newly appointed Egyptian
Vice President Omar Suleiman. Now Christians face an even greater threat as the outlawed group gains acceptance throughout the country.
TAKE ACTION:
Help us as we call on the Obama Administration to do everything they can to protect the safety and freedom of Christians in Egypt and keep the Muslim Brotherhood from gaining power. Call the State Department and urge that they work to protect the Christian minorities in Egypt.
