Muslim leader: Don't send us Christmas cards

107764_th.gifPODGORICA -- The leader of Montenegro's Muslims has appealed on state institutions in that country not to send Christmas greeting cards to the Islamic Community

Reis Rifat Fejzić told Podgorica daily Vijesti that each year this organization and he personally receive greetings for Christmas, while Islam, he continued, "does not recognize Christmas as a religious holiday".

He singled out the Montenegrin Academy of Sciences and Arts (CANU) which, "year after year congratulates the New Year and Christmas", and says "this institution should not allow this to happen".

Still, Fazlić said he does not feel offended, that he views the cards as a protocol error, but points out that "we should know each other and know who celebrates what".
