EGYPT: PARLIAMENT CONDEMNS BELLY DANCING PERFORMANCE
CAIRO, May 19 - The Egyptian Peoplés Assembly condemned today the perfomance of a belly dancer at a high school prom. "We condemn such a behaviour and we
will refer this subject to the Education Committee as how can an educational institution resort to belly dancers to perform in school parties while we are teaching students good values," Peoplés Assembly Speaker Ahmed Fathi Sorour said. The condemnation follows an arguement by MP Moustafa Bakri who was upset over the Egyptian Education Ministry's silence at letting belly dancer star Dina perfom in a school prom. The Egyptian government, represented by Minister of State for Legal and Parliamentary Councils Affairs Mofeed Shehab, denounced such "an unethical act, promising to punish whoever was responsible for this behaviour". The Egyptian Education minister is expected to announce punitive measures against the school once he returns from the World Economic Forum, currently in session in the Egyptian Red Sea resort of Sharm El Sheikh.
