Pelosi romances Muslim vote

Now I understand why Nancy Pelosi was so adamant about securing a big military jet for her entourage.

Because she plans to make it illegal for airport security screeners to use common sense in protecting commercial flights.

How do I know?

Pelosi and a handful of her least distinguished Democratic colleagues – Rep. John Dingell, D-MI, Rep. John Conyers, D-MI, Rep. Charles Rangel, D-NY, among others – met with unnamed "leaders of the Muslim American community" to discuss issues of mutual concern.

According to the press releases issued by both Democrats and the secretive cell of unelected – perhaps even unindicted – leaders of the Muslim American community, the key concern for one and all was civil rights and the restoration of civil liberties.

Now, if you think these Muslim Americans were concerned with the lack of civil liberties in Sudan, Somalia, Iran, Syria, Egypt, Saudi Arabia or any other Islamic nation in the world, you would be mistaken. Their concern is for the complete absence of civil rights here in the U.S. This should give you an idea of the intellectual honesty of the secret, unnamed cabal that met with members of Congress.

They believe that civil liberties are most in need of restoration here in the U.S. – not in Dar al-Islam.

So what would such men have in common with these congressional Democrats?

"This discussion is only the first in an ongoing dialogue between congressional Democrats and Muslim Americans," explained Pelosi. "We share a fundamental principle – the belief that diversity is the backbone of our communities. Generations of Muslims have made positive contributions in every aspect of American life. We must now work even more closely to navigate through the challenges we face as a nation."

Is it indeed true that Pelosi was able to find Muslim leaders who actually celebrate diversity? Could this be why the identity of the group remains secret – to protect them from less multiculturally sensitive members of their own community? Has Pelosi been able to tap into a previously undiscovered wellspring of reformationist conviction inside the Muslim American community?

Perhaps. We'll await details of these secret talks with bated breath.

Pelosi continued: "Since September 11th, many Muslim Americans have been subjected to searches at airports and other locations based upon their religion and national origin, without any credible information linking individuals to criminal conduct. Racial and religious profiling is fundamentally un-American and we must make it illegal."

What does that mean?

It means, if Pelosi gets her way, airport screeners will think twice about searching a Muslim, an Arab, an Arab-American or anyone who might look like one of the above. Even a random search upon one of these members of a newly protected class could result in a lawsuit, a suspension, a firing or a fine.

Won't it be better to just look the other way – to screen only the little old ladies and pregnant moms from the suburbs? After all, it will still give the appearance of airline security – and that's what really counts, right?

It hasn't gone unnoticed, however, that Pelosi's little plan to ban the application of common sense in airport security screening coincides with her own plan for bigger, more secure accommodations on military aircraft for her coast-to-coast jaunts, as well as those by her own loved ones and members of her staff.

The Democrats are clearly romancing American Muslims. If it means more planes go down in flames, so be it. If it means non-Muslims will be the only people inconvenienced in airports, so be it. If it means opening up our back door to terrorists, so be it.

Not only do they have plans to ban "racial" profiling, as they call it – even though Islam is not a race, but a religion – they are also planning to lift the country's few remaining restrictions on immigration from Muslim countries, also known as "terrorist-supporting nations."

As a third-generation Arab-American, the grandson of immigrants who fled Muslim domination and tyranny, I have a better idea. Instead of banning so-called "racial profiling" in airport security, let's ban it in our political system. In other words, let's end the pandering for ethnic and religious votes by compromising on America's principles and security.

Now that would be a real celebration of diversity.
