Congressman Virgil Goode has told an interfaith group that he'd accept an invitation to attend a Muslim gathering.
The Republican from Rocky Mount caused a national stir in December when he wrote in a letter to constituents that immigration rules should be tightened before "many more Muslims" are elected to office.
Goode was referring in part to Congressman Keith Ellison of Minnesota.
In November, Ellison became the first Muslim elected to Congress.
A delegation of religious leaders, including three Muslims, met with Goode recently in his Washington office.
Goode accepted the delegation's invitation to attend a Muslim service
