The army said soldiers spotted the woman approaching them with an explosive device near the Jabalya refugee camp and threw a stun grenade at her. The woman detonated the device, killing herself, the army said. Three soldiers were slightly wounded.
The Israeli operations took place a day after the government decided to press on with a five-month-old offensive in Gaza but not order a massive assault to curb an upsurge in Palestinian militant rocket strikes on the Jewish state.
The armed wing of the governing Hamas movement took responsibility for the attempted suicide bombing and identified the woman as Fatima al-Nejar.
Her family said she had nine children and nearly 30 grandchildren. She is the first known Palestinian grandmother to attempt a suicide bombing against Israelis.
"I'm very proud of what she did. Allahu akbar (God is great)," said one of her sons, Fuad, 31.
On a Hamas-released video, the woman read a statement saying she wanted to dedicate her death to Palestinians held in Israeli jails and to Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh of Hamas.
She wore a black suicide belt and had an M-16 assault rifle slung over her neck.
"I offer myself as a sacrifice to God and to the homeland," she said.
An Israeli air strike on a car killed three militants from the Popular Resistance Committees, including Fayeq Abu Al-Qumsan, who was the militant group's commander for northern Gaza, residents said. The PRC has been behind many of the recent rocket attacks on Israeli border towns.
Israeli soldiers also fought gunbattles with gunmen, witnesses said. Hospital officials said a 20-year-old civilian man was fatally shot by Israeli troops east of the town of Beit Lahiya. The army said it was checking the report.
Residents said troops backed by tanks earlier thrust into Beit Lahiya. Tanks firing machine guns stormed a housing project, killing a 19-year-old man, hospital officials said.
Israel said troops were operating around Beit Lahiya but denied forces were in densely populated areas. Four Israeli soldiers were wounded by anti-tank missiles, the army said.
Residents said the incursion into Beit Lahiya was one of the biggest since Israel launched its offensive in late June after gunmen, including Hamas members, abducted a soldier in a cross-border raid from Gaza.
The objective was then broadened to target rocket-launching squads, which have killed two Israelis in the past week. Militants said the rockets are a response to army assaults.
Israel has killed nearly 380 Palestinians in Gaza, about half of them civilians, since it began the offensive, hospital officials and residents said. Three soldiers have been killed.

Indeed, my opinion is that he is regarded as one who has killed himself (committed suicide), and as a result he shall be punished in Hell, for that which is authenticated on the authority of the Prophet (sal-Allaahu `alayhe wa sallam).
[((Indeed, whoever (intentionally) kills himself, then certainly he will be punished in the Fire of Hell, wherein he shall dwell forever)), [Bukhaaree (5778) and Muslim (109 and 110)]].
However, one who is ignorant and does not know, and assumes his action was good and pleasing to Allaah (Subhaanahu wa Ta'aala), then we hope Allaah (Subhaanahu wa Ta'aala) forgives him for that which he did out of (ignorant) ijtihaad, even though I do not find any excuse for him in the present day. This is because this type of suicide is well known and widespread amongst the people, so it is upon the person to ask the people of knowledge (scholars) regarding it, until the right guidance for him is differentiated from the error.
And from that which is surprising, is that these people kill themselves despite Allaah having fordbidden this, as He (Subhaanahu wa Ta'aala) says:
{And do not kill yourselves. Surely, Allaah is Most Merciful to you}, [Soorah an-Nisaa., Aayah 29].
And many amongst them do not desire anything except revenge of the enemy, by whatever means, be it halaal or haraam. So they only want to satisfy their thirst for revenge.
We ask Allaah to bless us with foresight in His Deen and action(s) which please Him, indeed He is all Powerful over all things.

Viewer, her point is irrelevent. Islam is not based on one woman.
Haraam and Halal are determined by the Quran, not you.

May Allah curse you christian dog. Allah will judge you. I read the Qur'an daily and have studied it for the better part of 20 years.Islam is NOT based on woman but even women may start a sunnah hasanah. If you understood Islam you would know Allah proscribes fighting for the true muslim. It is Allah who judges me not you. It is not me saying it is Halal it is the holy qur'an and the words of Prophet Muhammed (PBUH)

Qur’an:4:95 “Not equal are those believers who sit at home and receive no injurious hurt, and those who strive hard, fighting Jihad in Allah’s Cause with their wealth and lives. Allah has granted a rank higher to those who strive hard, fighting Jihad with their wealth and bodies to those who sit (at home). Many of you seem to be very frightened and surprised by the fact that I openly preach Jihad for the sake of Allah, as it is ordained in our Religion. Keep in mind, I only preach that which is in the Qur’an and Sunnah; and those who tell you that preaching from these two sources is not necessary, do not listen to them; even if they call themselves Muslim since Allah says,
يٰأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ آمَنُوۤاْ أَطِيعُواْ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ وَلاَ تَوَلَّوْا عَنْهُ وَأَنْتُمْ تَسْمَعُونَ
وَلاَ تَكُونُواْ كَالَّذِينَ قَالُوا سَمِعْنَا وَهُمْ لاَ يَسْمَعُونَ
إِنَّ شَرَّ ٱلدَّوَابِّ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلصُّمُّ ٱلْبُكْمُ ٱلَّذِينَ لاَ يَعْقِلُونَ

Suicide is when a person kills himself intentionally by whatever means. This is haraam and regarded as amongst the major sins, and likewise included in the general statement of Allaah (Subhaanahu wa Ta'aala):
{And whoever kills a believer intentionally, his recompense is Hell to abide therein, and the Wrath and the Curse of Allaah are upon him, and a great punishment is prepared for him}, [Soorah an-Nisaa, Aayah 93].
And it is established from the Sunnah on the authority of the Prophet (sal-Allaahu `alayhe wa sallam) who said:
((Indeed, whoever (intentionally) kills himself, then certainly he will be punished in the Fire of Hell, wherein he shall dwell forever)), [Bukhaaree (5778) and Muslim (109 and 110)].
In reality, the one who commits suicide, generally does so because of his desperate situation, either as a direct result of an act of Allaah or a human being. So you find him unable to cope with that which has afflicted him, and in actual fact he is like one who is calling for help from the scorching heat of the fire. So he has progressed from that which was tough (bad) to that which is worse. And if he was patient, then Allaah would have assisted him in dealing with the difficulty.

According to the christian dogma you can rob,steal,lie,even murder,or rape, then commit suicide like Sampson (who is not in the Quran) and it is all paid for by the blood of christ so what is the incentive to cease evil deeds? :2 Timothy 2:10 Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.

Shamir did you ever notice that the supporters of suicide bombings have to leave the Quran to find dalil? Please define the word Dalil by the way. If Samir can not tell you what dalil is he is either a fake Muslim or a typical Christian.

I lied about what I said about Christian dogma. I am a muslim and felt guitly about the lie. I know that in the Christian faith you can not steal and kill and so forth and still call yourself a chrisitan. I apologize to the christians out there. I am a muslim now and wanted to promote my faith.
I believe Islam is superior and basically I let myself get carried away.
