Announcement
In the past few months acts of violence against Christians and minorities have escalated in the Middle East. The situation is especially bad for Christians in countries such as Egypt,
Lebanon, Iraq and Sudan. These minorities have no help or protection from their governments or countries, and the deplorable acts against them cannot be kept quiet any longer.
These people face humiliation, torture and murder every day. In response, the International Christian Union, Copts United and Mr. Cameel Halim of Chicago are working to alleviate their suffering by organizing the 4th International Conference of Copts with supporters of democracy, international political leaders, human rights activists, scholars of Middle Eastern studies and religious freedom experts from the Arab world. This conference will include a number of components and will culminate with a demonstration outside of the United Nations in New York on Tuesday, June 20.
This and other programs that will take place in the future are being organized to promote human rights and freedom of religion in the Middle East. We also seek to change the political climate in the Middle East and to foster understanding about the degree of persecution and violence faced by these minorities.
Many people believe that political, social and human rights work is limited to politicians and activists. In reality, supporting these important ideals is open to anyone with a conscience who empathizes with the suffering of his brethren in the world.
My dear reader, you are invited to join us in relieving the suffering of your brothers and sisters in the Middle East. Please join us in demonstrating our support for the weak and the persecuted. The situation is sad and embarrassing to every free person and must be addressed.
Right now Islamic countries are spending enormous amounts of money to promote terrorism – the leading offenders being Saudi Arabia and Iran. Yet Christians are left empty-handed and not offered political or economic assistance.
Initially this conference was to be held in the halls of the United Nations in New York on Monday, June 19, 2006. An agreement was reached to meet at the Dag Hammarskjold Library, but was cancelled due to political pressure much of which came from Egypt. So the International Christian Union, Copts United and Mr. Cameel Halim decided to change the venue to the Holiday Inn in Newark, New Jersey during the same time, June 19th-20th, 2006.
If you cannot come to share with the conference with us, you can follow its progress at
